On September 3rd Machete will be released, Robert Rodriguez‘s new film will hit the theatres at last. For those who don’t recall his name, Rodriguez is responsible for several movies such as Desperado, Planet Terror and the recently released Predators.

Machete is an expansion of a fake trailer that was released together with Rodriguez’ and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 Grindhouse. You might not remember the name “Grindhouse” but I guess you will do remember the two feature-length segments included in Grindhouse: the Rodriguez-directed Planet Terror and Tarantino-directed Death Proof . Machete continues the B movie and exploitation style of Grindhouse, including in part the same footage. Danny Trejo stars in his first lead role as the title character.

Machete is a former “Mexican Federale” renegade. After a shakedown with a druglord (Steven Seagal), Machete roams Texas looking to do yard work in exchange for money. A local businessman called Michael Benz (Jeff Fahey) offers Machete $150,000 to kill a corrup Senator known by the name of McLaughlin (Robert De Niro) and he takes the offer. As Machete attempts to assassinate McLaughlin during a rally, he is double-crossed and one of Benz’ henchmen shoots him…

Wrong! Now he’s looking for revenge with the help of Shé (Michelle Rodriguez), Padre Benito del Toro (Cheech Marin) -Machete’s “holy” brother- and April (Lindsay Lohan)… But it gets a little bit more complicated when Agent Sartana (Jessica Alba), a persistent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, is sent to go find and capture him while he begins to hunt the people who double crossed him
